Okay, so it has now been more than 3 months since I last updated my blog. Turns out I’m not so great at this blog thing. The past 3 months have been crazy packed with places, people, and adventures. I am now in Iquitos, a water-locked jungle town in Peru. I hear this is the largest city in the world that can’t be reached by road. Nick and I arrived here by cargo boat over a week ago, and then took off for a 3-day camping trip in the Amazon before Nick flew out of Iquitos to go back to England. I decided to stay here for a bit longer and just relax; the past six weeks of traveling with Nick have been quite a whirlwind. In a few days, I am going to the Pacaya Samiria Reserve (another part of the Amazon) to volunteer for just a week. Pacaya Samiria is supposed to be incredible, and it would be nice to stay longer, but my visa for Peru has already expired (oops, I never expected to stay for more than 90 days!) and after what the mosquitoes did to me in just 3 days on my camping trip, I am already quite scared of what I will look like after a week. It is the rainy season in Iquitos now, so the mosquitoes are on a rampage. I have never been bitten as badly as on our 3-day trip; after I got back, I counted more than 80 mosquito bites on just one leg! Though I am still quite polka-dotted from all my bites, after resting for a bit I am ready to go back in!
For the past few days, I’ve been waiting for the next boat to Pacaya Samiria. In a fit of writing, I decided to FINALLY do as I’ve been promising everyone for the past 3 months and update my blog. WATCH OUT though. When I say a FIT of writing, I’m not kidding. I think my fingers had a bit of an epileptic seizure and just started typing on their own accord. I’ve tried to break up the entries a bit, but still, I’m warning you. Unless you are REALLY interested in Peru or have to love me because you are my mother, you may not want to read it all! There are also some blog entries back from Quito; I finally got around to finishing some half-finished entries that I started back in September…
